The Abel competition is a competition in mathematical problem solving for students in upper secondary school in Norway. The competition consists of two preliminary rounds which are carried out digitally in the schools, and a final which is held at NTNU in Trondheim.

Acton-Boxborough Math Competition Online Contest

The Alberta High School Mathematics Competition (A.H.S.M.C.) is an annual mathematics competition for high school students in Alberta. 
The A.H.S.M.C. consists of two Rounds. The students write the contest in their own schools. Calculators are not allowed.
The First Round is an 80-minute paper, consisting of 16 multiple-choice questions. 
The Second Round is a 3-hour paper, consisting of 5 problems requiring full solutions.


Alberta High School Mathematics Competition

The Alabama Statewide High School Mathematics Contest is a statewide mathematics exam for Alabama high school students. These two hour examinations compare in difficulty to the AMC 12.
Three exams are available: Geometry, Algebra II, and Comprehensive. Awards are given based on individual performance and based on team performance, where a team is formed by the top four scores on each exam.

The AMC contains unique problems designed each year by leading educators and academics to challenge and extend students’ problem-solving skills.

The Computational and Algorithmic Thinking (CAT) competition gives students the opportunity to develop their problem-solving skills through algorithmic thinking. The competition incorporates unique ‘three-stage tasks’ that encourage students to develop informal algorithms and apply them to test data of increasing size or complexity.
CAT is suitable for any maths class and requires no programming experience. It can be used to develop students’ interest and potential in computer programming.
The CAT contains unique problems designed each year by leading educators, academics and industry experts to challenge and extend students’ problem-solving skills.


Computational and Algorithmic Thinking

The Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad (APMO) is a mathematical competition for countries in the Pacific-Rim Region.
The APMO is held annually. Each participating country has a representative in charge of organizing the APMO locally. A central committee selects a paper with 5 questions to be solved in 4 hours, sends marking schemes and determines award winners.
The APMO started in 1989. It has the following aims:
- Discovering, encouraging and challenging mathematically gifted high-school students.
- Fostering friendly international relations and cooperation between students and teachers throughout the region.
- Creating opportunities for the exchange of information on school syllabi and practice.
- Encouraging and supporting the mathematical involvement with Olympiad type activities in the participating countries and other countries of the region.


Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad

The Austrian-Polish Mathematical Competition Austria and Poland alternate hosting the competition. It is held at early summer before the IMO and has two parts: the individual contest, consisting of six problems for two days, and the team contest, consisting of three to four problems.
In 2007 the competition was renamed the Middle European Mathematical Olympiad and many other Central European countries were invited.

Archimedes Math Competition’s mission and vision is to empower and introduce every high school student to Mathematical Olympiads, especially IMO. So that, every student will have a fair chance in taking advantage of participating in Olympiads.
Unfortunately to this date, vast majority of students have been graduating from high schools without having heard about IMO or any other world class prestigious High School Olympiads. Even if they have heard about the Olympiads, they still lack the understanding of how to take part in them.
Indeed IMO is a prestigious Olympiad. It happens once a year and maximum 6 students can participate from each country. So, IMO shows the rankings of top 6 representatives of each country among others.
Many students around the globe dedicate years for preparation and in some cases they will be left unnoticed due to not being able to make it into the top 6 in TSTs. In fact, those unnoticed students might be better than some or most of the actual participants of IMO.
Thus, AMC finds most Mathematical Olympiads in mess and imbalanced, so we need a modern Archimedes who would find real value of every single modern gifted student within their respective regions!


Archimedes Math Competition

The Auckland Mathematical Olympiad is hosted by the Department of Mathematics at the University of Auckland. The aims of this Olympiad are to foster interest in Mathematics, and to encourage young people who attend schools in Auckland region with an opportunity to exhibit their problem solving skills by meeting various challenges put to them by mathematicians.
There are ten problems in the AMO. The first five questions are aimed at years 9 to 11 (juniors), while the second five questions are aimed at years 12 to 13 (seniors). However, all ages are encouraged to attempt as many questions as possible.


Auckland Mathematical Olympiad

The Baltic Way team competition is held on the shore of the Baltic Sea every autumn since 1990. The name of the competition comes from the mass demonstration for the freedom of the Baltic States organised on August 23, 1989, when people from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania stood hand in hand along the road from Tallinn to Vilnius.
The rules of the competition are simple: each country sends a team of 5 high school students, who are expected to solve 20 problems within 4.5 hours. During this time, the team members can and must communicate — otherwise they would not be able to solve such a quantity of problems. Hence, Baltic Way is not only about mathematical knowledge, but also about cooperational skills.
For the first two years, only teams from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania took part in the event, but later all the other countries surrounding the Baltic Sea (and also Iceland) joined in. Thus, the contest is now normally held among 11 teams: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany (represented mainly by Rostock and Hamburg), Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia (represented by St. Petersburg) and Sweden. Sometimes organisers also invite a guest team to take part in the contest. In 2001, there was a guest team from Israel, in 2004 and 2014, from Belarus, in 2005, from Belgium, in 2011, from South Africa, in 2015, from the Netherlands, and in 2021, from Ireland.


Baltic Way Mathematical Contests

The British Columbia Secondary School Mathematics Contest is given through participating post-secondary “host” institutions around the province. It consists of two rounds: a Preliminary Round (given through their high school) and a Final Round (hosted at the host institutions). Each round has two sections: a Junior section for grades 8 to 10 and a Senior section for grades 11 and 12.
The Preliminary Round will be normally be written in the individual secondary schools in early April. Each school chooses the students to write the contest. Any number of students may write and schools are encouraged to have as many students as possible write the Preliminary Round. The Preliminary Round, both Junior and Senior, consists of 12 multiple choice questions and is intended to be written in 45 minutes. The contest papers are marked at the individual schools using the marking key provided with the contest papers. The host institutions will make contest papers, marking key, reporting forms, and student waiver forms available to participating schools in mid-March.
The Final Round is written on the first Friday in May at the host institutions. Students have two hours to complete 10 multiple choice and 5 “long answer” questions, and have the chance to visit and learn a bit about the host institution.

Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad (BdMO) started its journey in April 2001. It's months-long, country wide festivals around mathematics. It is open for school & college going students (upto class XII) of the country. The usual timing of the festivals is around December - February.

The Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (BMO) is an international contest of winners of high-school national competitions from Balkan countries.
In recent years the hosts have also invited some non-Balkan guest countries.

The Benelux Mathematical Olympiad (BxMO) is a mathematical competition dedicated to high school students from Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. The contest is individual and consists of a single four-and-a-half-hour paper of four problems, mostly at easy IMO level or slightly below. An official delegation from each country is composed of ten students and three leaders. Half of the contestants are awarded a bronze, silver or gold medal, in the ratio 3:2:1.


Benelux Mathematical Olympiad

The Coordination Council invites students of Grades 8-11 of 15 regions in the Southern Russia and in foreign countries to participate in the Olympiad.
The Caucasus Mathematical Olympiad consists of two age leagues:

Junior League: Grade 8-9 Russian students and students of equivalent grades in participating countries;
Senior League: Grade 10-11 Russian students and students of equivalent grades in participating countries.

The Canadian Team Mathematics Contest (CTMC) is an exciting and challenging competition where participants work in teams to showcase their mathematical problem-solving skills through fun and engaging activities. A special feature of the CTMC is that schools can host the contest at their own school or be selected to participate at the University of Waterloo. 
Teams of six secondary school students in any combination of grades.
The contest is divided into individual, team and relay portions. At least half of the problems in the individual event portion, and many problems in the team event portion, are accessible to students in Grade 9 and 10.

Written annually by over 25 000 participants worldwide, the Euclid Contest gives senior-level secondary school students the opportunity to solve innovative problems using their creativity and all of the knowledge they have gained in secondary school mathematics.
The Contest’s mix of short-answer and full-solution questions provides participants with an opportunity to effectively communicate their thinking. Additionally, the final questions in the Euclid are some of the most complex and challenging among all our contests, helping participants build perseverance, a key component of mathematical problem-solving.

The Canadian Math Kangaroo Contest (CMKC) is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit organization which aims to spread the joy of mathematics. The CMKC Corporation is administered by mathematicians and teachers of mathematics who cooperate with other professionals in order to provide an atmosphere and conditions suitable for motivating students to learn. We love mathematics and share our passion for the wonderful cause of creating a better future with better education for children.
The Contest-Game Math Kangaroo originated in France in 1991 and quickly became very popular among students in many European countries. Several years later, the association "Kangourou sans frontieres" was founded and it now organizes the event. The contest's main purpose is to promote mathematical thinking and stimulate an interest in math, by providing students with an opportunity to compare their abilities against the abilities of other students, from different countries around the world.


Canadian Math Kangaroo Contest

Canada Jay Mathematical Competition (CJMC) is a Canadian math competition open to students in grades K-8. This competition has been created by mathematicians from across Canada.  It was renamed in 2022 from the original name Canadian Mathematical Gray Jay Competition (CMGC) to match the renaming of the Canada Jay bird.
The CJMC is 90 minutes long, consisting of 15 multiple-choice questions based on the grades 5-8 curriculum.
The problems are meant to be a fun fall activity for students and teachers to complement their math curriculum and build students’ problem solving skills. The CJMC offers engaging problems that allow for discussion after the competition and get students excited about math. The competition has 15 questions which take place over 90 minutes. It consists of 3 blocks of 5 questions with an increasing level of difficulty from beginning to end.

The Canadian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO) is Canada’s premier national advanced mathematics competition.
Competitors require an invitation from the Canadian Mathematical Society in order to participate.
The Canadian Junior Mathematical Olympiad (CJMO), also by invitation only, is held at the same time for students up to grade ten.  The CJMO is not as challenging as the CMO, however some problems may appear in both competitions.

The Canada Lynx Mathematical Competition (CLMC) was launched by Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) for students in grades 9-12. This competition was created to foster an interest in mathematics among students regardless of their skill level, to increase student confidence in their math abilities, and to present mathematics as a fun and playful subject to students. It serves as great practice for students with advanced mathematical skills who wish to participate in the prestigious Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC) that takes place in October each year.

The Canadian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO) is Canada’s premier national advanced mathematics competition.
Competitors require an invitation from the Canadian Mathematical Society in order to participate.
The 3-hour competitions is held each March at a selected time and date.  All official participants write at the same time and are proctored by their local school faculty or staff.
The top students at the CMO can readily expect great scholarship and recruitment offers from universities. They will also be short-listed for the selection for Team Canada at the International Mathematical Olympiad.

The Canadian Mathematical Olympiad Qualifying Repêchage (or just “Repêchage”) is an annual competition that serves as a qualifier for the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO). It typically runs at the beginning of February each year, shortly after results of the Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC) are announced.  Participation is by invitation only.
The competitors who demonstrate the most innovative, clear, and complete solutions are immediately invited to register for the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO), Canada’s most prestigious math competition for secondary students and the gateway representing Canada at the summer’s International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
Students in grade ten or under who do well on the Repêchage, but not well enough for the CMO earn invitations to the Junior CMO (CJMO). 
There are no other prizes or certificates for participation.

The Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC) is Canada’s premier national mathematics competition open to any student with an interest in and grasp of high school math. The purpose of the COMC is to encourage students to explore, discover, and learn more about mathematics and problem solving. The competition serves to provide teachers with a unique student enrichment activity during the fall term. It is the most prestigious math competition in Canada, and one of the most prestigious in the Americas. The COMC is the only way to be invited to the CMS’ free, exclusive training camps and compete internationally as part of Math Team Canada.

The Pi Day Mathematics Competition at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar is an opportunity for secondary / high school students in Qatar to explore the fun side of mathematics. 
Teams of four students compete in two rounds of mathematical problem solving. The preliminary round will determine the top four teams. The top four teams advance to the final round.
The preliminary round will be a written test. Teams will be given 90 minutes to complete a set of 40 questions of varying difficulty. The Final round will be held in a “Quiz Bowl” format.


Pi Day Mathematics Competition - CMU Qatar

The CREST Mathematics Olympiad is an international competitive exam held online for students in Grades KG-10. 
The exam is an objective-type test that the students need to complete in 60 minutes. For students of Classes KG and 1, the exam will be parent/teacher assisted. The time of the exam will be 45 minutes for KG students.

Each year, CSAML hosts the Connecticut State Math Match.
The top half of schools in each league qualify for the state match. A registration form is shared with the coaches of qualifying schools in early March.
There will be six individual rounds. Three questions on each round. Each student takes three rounds. The students take their three individual rounds in a single 30-minute sitting.

Fairfield County Math League (FCML) membership consists of 29 public and private high schools in Fairfield County, Connecticut and surrounding areas.
Each year, the league holds six matches. The matches take place after school on the first Wednesday of each month, October through March.

The Cyprus Mathematical Olympiad is a Cyprus mathematics competition for students from grade 3 to 12, organized by the Cyprus Mathematical Society. There are five set of problems, each is for two grades. Note that Cyprus Mathematical Olympiad has nothing to do with the selection process of the national teams of Cyprus.

Cyprus Mathematical Society Pancyprian Competition is the second competition in the series of competitions used to challenge bright students on the path toward choosing the team that represents Cyprus at the IMO. All participants in this contest have been first qualified in regional competition.

Cyprus Mathematical Society Regional Competition is a competition for any Cyprus student attending at any public or private high-school. It's held in in every district capital. All districts have the same paper for each grade, but each grade has a different paper.
Afterwards selected students will be quilified to attend Pancyprian Competition.

Cyprus Mathematical Society Selection Tests for Lyseum are considered the four parts of the Selection Competition above 15.5. It's the selection competition for national teams for IMO, BMO, EGMO and MYMC.
All the students have the same test. In each of the competition five students are eliminated.

The Downtown Mathematics Invitational (DMI) is a competitive math contest hosted by Stuyvesant High School. 
This contest is open to teams from any high school within the five boroughs of New York City, private or public. Students must be in grades 9-12 to participate.

The Dutch Mathematical Olympiad is an annual contest for secondary school students. International schools in the Netherlands may also participate; schools outside the Netherlands may not. Any student who enjoys mathematics and is at school at a level comparable to 1-5 havo/vwo in the Dutch system, can enroll in the first round. This round is held in January at all participating schools. The contest problems are playful but challenging, and they test creativity as well as mathematical understanding. The problems of the first round are partly multiple choice and partly questions for which a number must be provided as answer. The contest problems are provided in Dutch and English. Problems and solutions from previous years can be found in our archive.
The approximately 1000 best students are invited to the second round in March. These winners of the first round come from three categories. Using the Dutch school system, these are: havo/vwo 5, havo/vwo 4, and havo/vwo 3 or below. In the third category a lower score in the first round is needed to get an invitation for the second round than in the second category, and in the second category a lower score is needed than in the first category. 
The approximately 130 best students in the second round (again in three categories) are invited to the final, which takes place in September. From the winners of the final eventually the teams are selected that represent the Netherlands at three international mathematical contests. Students that don’t have the Dutch nationality, but live in the Netherlands for several years and attend a Dutch school (not an international school), may be eligible for such a team.


Dutch Mathematical Olympiad

The European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) is the premier European mathematics competition, made exclusively for high school female students who enjoy mathematics beyond the regular school curriculum. Started by the United Kingdom in April 2012, EGMO has grown since then and now includes over fifty countries, welcoming participants from beyond Europe.
EGMO aims to inspire girls to take part in national and international mathematics competitions, providing more opportunities for mathematical development. It serves as a platform to amplify the presence of young female mathematicians on the global stage with the possibility to find associates and make remarkable connections while fostering cultural exchange among teenagers worldwide. It encourages young females to become scientists and boosts the number of girls in IMO teams.
Participation is by invitation only, with each country nominating up to four students. Like the International Mathematical Olympiad, EGMO unfolds over two days, featuring three problems each day. Medals are awarded to about half of the students, with additional recognition for outstanding problem-solving skills.


European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad

ELMACON was started in 1999 and is organized by PIMS under the guidance of Dr. Cary Chien (formerly of David Thompson Secondary School), Joshua Keshet, Klaus Hoechsmann (the PIMS Education Facilitator), as well as volunteers from UBC, SFU and the Lower Mainland. ELMACON gives students from grades 5 to 7 a chance to experience mathematics as an exciting sport.
The contest is modelled after the successful MathCounts competitions (which are also supported by PIMS), but is aimed at younger students.
Students from grades 5, 6, and 7 compete in separate divisions. Each division is comprised of three rounds Sprint, Target (both written) and Countdown (a verbal one-on-one competition). The top 25 participants in each grade are acknowledged and the top ten participants from each grade advance to the CountDown Round (oral contest).


ELMACON

The European Mathematical Cup (abbr. EMC) is a high school mathematics competition organized by the Croatian association Young Gifted Mathematicians Marin Getaldić in cooperation with various wonderful professors and university students who help organize the competition internationally.
The competition is divided into two categories: Junior (students younger than 17 on the day of the competition and who have never participated at the IMO) and Senior (other high-school students or exceptional elementary school students). A student who satisfies the criteria to compete in the Junior category can choose to compete in the Senior category instead.
The duration of the competition for both categories is 4 hours. Within that time, the students attempt to solve 4 problems, one from each of the following areas: algebra, combinatorics, geometry and number theory.  Modelled by the rules of other international competitions such as the IMO, the only instruments permitted in the competition are the writing and drawing instruments. The use of formulas, calculators and other instruments is prohibited. In terms of required knowledge, the problems are similar to the IMO problems, albeit the problems of the Junior category are usually more elementary and require less knowledge.


European Mathematical Cup

The Exeter Math Club Competition is an annual math competition for middle schoolers (in 8th grade or below), written and run by students at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. 
Every year since 2010, in January, teams of four come from around the world to compete in-person at Exeter.

«Formula of Unity» (Formulo de Integreco, FdI)  is the program of the Euler Foundation; it aims to help develop intellectual and creative abilities of 13–17 year old school students interested in science and art. The program involves international mathematical Olympiads, distance educational circles, and also a network of children’s educational camps including the international one that welcomes children from different countries such as Spain, Romania, Ecuador, France, the USA, China, Croatia, Israel, Kazakhstan, Brazil, etc. International summer camps are carried out in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region.
School students of grades 5–11 from Russia and of equivalent grades from all over the world are invited to participate.
All school students can take part in the qualifying round and the winners of it are invited to the final round. Winners of the previous Olympiad (with diplomas of any degree) are also invited directly to the finals.

The 7th Graders' Regional Mathematics Competition is a regional competition in Finland.
In each of Helsinki, Oulu, Satakunta and Turku, a regional mathematics competition is organized for the 7th graders. The purpose of the competitions is to provide challenge and to encourage the pupils to take mathematics as a hobby. 
The competitions are separate from each other and in different regions they have different problems. This means that the results of different regions are not comparable.
The first round of the competition is held in schools and a final round in the university or in schools. In each city, the best twenty contestants or so are invited to the final round. Furthermore, the top contestants are invited to participate in mathematics training.


7th Graders' Regional Mathematics Competition in Finland

MKC is one of the largest mathematics competitions in the world. The contest was first held in France in 1991 and was named “kangaroo” because the contest format drew from the previously held Australian Mathematics Competition. As MKC became very popular among students, the contest has first spread from France to European countries, and has further expanded to around the world. Now, MKC is coordinated globally by “Association Kangourou Sans Frontières” (AKSF).
Magic Square Association (MSA) is the official organiser of MKC in Hong Kong as well as Macau. MSA aims to promote the mathematical education in Hong Kong and Macau.
To participate in the contest, students in kindergarten, primary, or secondary schools must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Students registered in schools located in Hong Kong or Macau.
- Permanent residents of Hong Kong or Macau.
- Holders of valid visas issued by the Hong Kong SAR or the Macau SAR government.

Hong Kong Mathematical High Achievers Selection Contest (HKMHASC) is a yearly mathematics competition for students of or below Secondary 3 in Hong Kong. It is jointly organized by Po Leung Kuk and Hong Kong Association of Science and Mathematics Education since the academic year 1998-1999. Recently, there are more than 250 secondary schools participating.
Each participating school may send at most 5 students into the contest. There is one paper, divided into Part A and Part B, with two hours given. Part A is usually made up of 14 - 18 easier questions, carrying one mark each. In Part A, only answers are required. Part B is usually made up of 2 - 4 problems with different difficulties, and may carry different number of marks, varying from 4 to 8. In Part B, workings are required and marked. No calculators or calculation assisting equipments (e.g. printed mathematical tables) are allowed.


Hong Kong Mathematical High Achievers Selection Contest

Founded in 2001, the Diana Nichols Harker Math Invitational (HMI) is an annual math competition run by the Harker School for middle-school students in and beyond the Bay Area. HMI provides the perfect opportunity for middle-school students to explore mathematics beyond school and to meet and collaborate with hundreds of other students who share their interests.
The contest is split into two rounds, each 45 minutes. All questions are equally weighted, short answer questions and there are no penalties for wrong answers. When bonus questions are not applicable, Borda is used as a tiebreaker.
Participants are allowed to bring their own rulers, non-smartwatch watches, protractors, compasses, and scientific or graphing calculators; however, students may not bring their own scratch paper or use any other computing devices or the internet. 
The Individual Round consists of 30 regular questions and 5 bonus questions. Sixth graders will only solve questions 1 through 20, seventh graders questions 1 through 25, and eighth graders questions 6 through 30. The bonus questions will be the same for all grade levels and will only be used as tie-breakers. Calculators are not allowed for the individual round.
The Team Round lasts for 45 minutes and consists of 15 questions. All students will solve the same set of problems with their teams. In addition, students are permitted to use calculators for the team round. Noncompeting individuals will be arranged into teams with others from either their own or other schools to participate in this round but will not be considered for prizes.

The Hawaii State Math Championship (State Math Bowl) was started in 1978 because the already successful Oahu Mathematics League (OML) did not include any neighbor island school and the OML required participation by 10 student teams, thereby making it difficult for the smaller and neighbor island schools to receive any recognition.
The Hawaii Council of Teachers of Mathematics (HCTM) and Brigham Young University–Hawaii have been primary forces behind the State Math Bowl (State Math Championship) in conjunction with a prolific number of supporters.
All interested public and private high schools in the State of Hawaii will each designate three students to represent them on the official school team.

Iranian Combinatorics Olympiad (ICO) is an annual competition focusing on high-quality problems related to combinatorics. Its purpose is to help students getting familiar with combinatorics as a creative, broad, and enjoyable topic, in a fun and adventurous manner as well as allowing them to compete with students from other countries and all the combinatorics lovers.
ICO is the first competition in the field of combinatorics, which includes online scoring and ranking. Participation is open to anyone interested in mathematics or computer science, from high school or any other educations.

In 2014, the Iran Geometry Olympiad was launched by a group consisting of activists of the Mathematical Olympiad in Iran. 
Now, this competition is held annually in four different levels with the participation of students in grades 7-12 and geometry lovers who graduated from schools around the world.

The National Olympiad in Bulgaria was started in 1952. Now it has four rounds.
Usually the first round is held in December. Students of all grades of the middle and high school take part in it. The number of participants is about 75 000. The problems in this round are given by the teachers and they are different for the different schools. The problems depend on the grade, i.e. the problems for the different grades are different and are connected mainly with the math curriculum. Usually the students should solve 3 (some times 4) problems for 4.5 hours. Only those who receive more than 75% of the full score are admitted to take part in the second round of the Olympiad. The level of the problems in this round is not so high, because the aim is to involve as many students as possible in the Olympiad.
The second round of the Olympiad is held in March. The difference between the second and the first round is that the problems in the second round are more difficult. The level of the problems for the last grade of the high school is approximately equivalent to the level of the problems given at the entrance examination in the Departments of mathematics of the Bulgarian Universities. The number of participants in the second round is approximately 30 000.
The third and the fourth rounds of the Olympiad are only for the students, who are in the last grade of the high school. They are held in the middle of April and the middle of May respectively. Students from lower grades are allowed to take part in these rounds, but they should cover the whole math curriculum in advance. During each of these two rounds the contestants should solve 6 problems in two days (3 problems every day for 4.5 hours). The problems for these two rounds are given by the Special Committee at the Union of Bulgarian Mathematicians (UBM), and the students papers are marked also by this Committee. The level of the problems in the last two rounds is very high. The level of the problems in the fourth round is close to the level of the problems given during the International Mathematical Olympiad.
The number of participants in the third round is about 1000. They receive the problems by mail in their own schools, solve them there and the teachers mail back the contestants papers in the UBM. About 80 students take part in the fourth round of the Olympiad and it takes part in Sofia (usually in Sofia University). It is important that the students come for this round together with their teachers. In this way, the teachers get the possibility, during this period of 2-3 days, to share their experiences in preparation of students for math Olympiads and competitions.
The best 12 students in the fourth round form the ''extended team'' for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). They are invited to a pre-Olympiad training session, which durates 4-5 weeks. During this session the students make 2 quizzes and according to the results of these quizzes and the results of the fourth round the first 6 students form the Bulgarian team for the IMO.

The Spring Mathematical Competition and the Winter Mathematical Competition are important for Bulgarian students. 
In these two competitions every region takes part with a team of 4-5 students from each grade. 
During the competitions they are expected to solve 3 problems for 4.5 hours. The problems are selected by the UBM Committee and the students papers are marked by the members of the same committee. The duration of these competitions is 3 days and at the end the results are announced and the winners receive prizes. The level of the problems in these two competitions is slightly higher than the level of the problems given in the second round of the National Mathematics Olympiad.

Winter Mathematical Competitions in Bulgaria

The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the World Championship Mathematics Competition for High School students and is held annually in a different country. The first IMO was held in 1959 in Romania, with 7 countries participating. It has gradually expanded to over 100 countries from 5 continents. The IMO Board ensures that the competition takes place each year and that each host country observes the regulations and traditions of the IMO.


International Mathematical Olympiad

International Mathematical Olympiad National Selection Test, or IMONST, is a mathematical competition that is also a pathway to select top students to represent Malaysia in various mathematical competitions, including the most prestigious math competition in the world, the International Mathematical Olympiad.
IMONST is an open competition where students from all over Malaysia are invited to join, as they are exposed to challenging problems that require creative and mathematical thinking for them to be able to solve them.
Everyone (including international students and adults) is invited to join IMONST 1, but participation in IMONST 2 will be limited.
These are three categories for IMONST 1
- Primary: Standard 5 & 6 or Year 5 & 6 (11 & 12 years old)
- Junior: Form 1 - 3 or Year 7 - 9 (13 - 15 years old)
- Senior: Form 4 and above, including Pre-University students or Year 10 and above (16 - 19 years old)

The Illinois Middle School Math Olympiad was founded in 2024.  It's designed for students live in the state of Illinois, be in 8th grade or below.

The Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (JBMO) is an international contest for students under the age of 15.5 from Balkan countries.

The Kenya Mathematical Olympiad is an annual Secondary School mathematics contest organized by the Mathematics Association of Kenya in conjunction with the School of Mathematics, University of Nairobi. The competition is organized with the aim of selecting Kenya’s teams for the International Mathematical Olympiad and the Pan African Mathematical Olympiad.
Every secondary school with eligible students can participate and is encouraged to do so. The Competition is open to both Junior and Senior categories.

Komodo Math Competition is an international math contests for k-12 students.
Students from around the world are invited to participate in the math contest according to their age-category. A portion of the exam will test their knowledge of standard school mathematics, and a portion of the exam will test their creative muscle through olympiad-style non-routine problems.

The Lexington Math Tournament is a biannual competition for middle schoolers written and run by students at Lexington High School. Many of the organizers and volunteers participated themselves in the LMT while in middle school. The competition hopes to challenge veterans and newcomers alike with difficult and thought-provoking problems.

The American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) is the second exam in the series of exams used to challenge bright students on the path toward choosing the team that represents the United States at the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO). While most AIME participants are high school students, some bright middle school students also qualify each year.
High scoring AIME students are invited to take the prestigious United States of America Mathematics Olympiad (USAMO) for qualification from taking the AMC 12 or United States of America Junior Mathematics Olympiad (USAJMO) for qualification from taking the AMC 10.

The AMC 8 is a contest for students in grades 8 and below, hosted annually by the Mathematical Association of America to students all over the United States.
The AMC 8 is a 25 multiple-choice question, 40-minute competition designed for middle schoolers. The AMC 8 is a standalone competition; students cannot qualify for the AIME via their AMC 8 score alone.
The AMC 8 is scored based on the number of questions answered correctly only. There is no penalty for getting a question wrong, and each question has equal value.

The Manitoba Mathematical Contest is orgnized by University of Manitoba Mathematics Department, offered to Manitoba schools and also welcome entries from Saskatchewan or North-Western Ontario.
It is locally run and written concurrently with the Pascal/Cayley/Fermat contest each year for grade 12 students.

The Middle European Mathematical Olympiad (MEMO) is the continuation of Austrian-Polish Mathematical Competition, held 29 times from 1978 to 2006. Now ten countries participate in the MEMO: Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland.
Similar to the IMO, each country participates with at most six students and two team leaders. At a meeting of representatives of MEMO countries held in 2006. during the IMO it was pointed out that one of the goals of the new competition was to enable a larger number of students to gain experience in international competitions. Therefore, the teams participating in the MEMO are typically disjoint from the IMO teams. Also, in order for MEMO to help younger students prepare for some future International Mathematical Olympiad, students in their senior year are not eligible to be in the MEMO team.
The most important part of the MEMO are the individual and team competition, each lasting five hours. The problems are of the “olympic” type, typically divided into four areas: algebra, combinatorics, geometry and number theory. At the individual competition the students solve one problem from each area. The team competition test consists of eight problems, two from each area (although at the first two MEMOs the team competition also had only four problems). In the team competition the students solve the problems together, which gives the competition a very special atmosphere. The team part of the competition existed also at the APMC, but it is otherwise a rarity in mathematical competitions.

Math Kangaroo was proposed by Peter O'Halloran, an Australian mathematician and teacher, in the 1980's. In 1991, this idea was taken up in Paris, France. Very quickly, it spread throughout Europe. The competition began to be called "Kangaroo" because of its Australian origin. The main purpose of Math Kangaroo is to promote mathematical thinking and stimulate an interest in math, by providing students with an opportunity to compare their abilities against the abilities of other students, from different countries around the world. Math Kangaroo is now the largest math competition for school students in the world. As of now, it has been held in 103 countries and regions.

Mathematical Kangaroo (also known as International Mathematical Kangaroo, or Kangourou sans frontieres in French) is an international mathematical competition held across 92 countries in the world. There are twelve levels of participation, ranging from grade 1 to grade 12. The key competence tested by Mathematical Kangaroo is not just pure knowledge of formulas, but the logical combination of concepts.
Kangourou sans Frontières is formed by maths lovers from all over the world. Motivated by the importance of mathematics in the modern world, their passion is to spread the joy of mathematics, support mathematical education in school and promote a positive perception of mathematics in society. The main activity of Kangourou sans Frontières is designing the annual Kangaroo Mathematics Competition. Mathematical problems in the multiple-choice form are offered to children of all school levels. The questions are not standard textbook problems and come from a large variety of topics. Besides inspiring ideas, perseverance and creativity, they require imagination, basic computational skills, logical thinking and other problem solving strategies. Often there are small stories, surprising questions and results, which encourage discussions with friends and family. The organisation of the competition in the individual countries is up to the members of Kangourou sans Frontières.

Initiated in France in 1991, the Kangaroo Competition is one of the biggest mathematics competitions in the world. Since its establishment, more than 70 countries and around 6 million students participated in this competition. 
In 2022, with 600 registered students and approximately 400 participants, Kuwait hosted the first Annual Kangaroo Mathematics competition and was organized by Sabah Al Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity.

The Kangaroo Math Competition is an international school-level mathematics competition organized by the Association Kangourou sans Frontières (AKSF), a transnational educational group based in Paris. Founded in the early 1980s, the Kangaroo Math Competition is currently the world’s largest math competition, with almost 6 million participants from 98 countries in 2023.
Malaysia was inducted into AKSF in 2012 and has been sanctioned by AKSF to organize the Kangaroo Math Competition in Malaysia since 2013.

The Math Open At Andover is an annual mathematics competition for middle schoolers, hosted by Phillips Academy Andover in Andover, Massachusetts. 
Through MOAA, middle school students can experience mathematical exploration, collaboration, and competition.
Students can attend if they are in 8th grade or below. Teams consist of 1 to 4 students with no restrictions (as everything will be virtual, team members can be from different schools, different states, or even different countries).

The Mathematical Olympiad is a mathematics competition in which young people from all over Switzerland who are enthusiastic about mathematics can exchange ideas and compete against each other. The competition consists of several rounds as well as numerous preparatory meetings and a week-long camp for the finalists.
The Mathematical Olympiad also serves as the official selection process for the Swiss delegations at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), the Central European Mathematical Olympiad (MEMO) and the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO).

The Math Prize for Girls is an annual mathematics competition open to female high school students from the United States and Canada. The competition offers the world’s largest single monetary math prize in a math contest for young women. 
The single-day annual contest is open to female high-school students in 12th grade or below, from the United States and Canada who have attained a qualifying score on the American Mathematics Competitions Exams, specifically the AMC 10 or AMC 12 each year. Up to 300 participants are then selected each year for the competition. Participants must complete 20 short-answer problems in geometry, algebra, trigonometry, and other math topics in 150 minutes. The exams are then reviewed by a panel of judges, who award cash prizes to the top-scoring participants.
Top 35 performers are invited to participate in the Math Prize Olympiad, a proof-based contest to be administered at a student's school.

Náboj is an international mathematical competition designed for teams of five high-school students that represent their schools. 
The competition lasts 120 minutes during which the teams are trying to solve as many given problems as possible. At the beginning of the competition each team receives six problems. As soon as the team correctly solves any of the problems, it receives a new one. The solutions of the problems are usually numerical. The team that solves most problems correctly in the given time limit wins. 
Teams compete in two categories: Juniors and Seniors. Students participating in Junior category must be in S4 or earlier year (preferably S3 and S4). The Senior category is open to any team consisting of secondary school students (preferably S5 and S6).
Since 2005, Náboj Math has been taking place in multiple countries simultaneously. It gives a unique opportunity for students to compare their abilities and knowledge to their counterparts from other countries. Although the results are evaluated primarily on local level, an international comparison adds an extra motivation and rivalry.

The Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) is the third stage examination of the Mathematical Olympiad Programme in India. 
The best-performing students from the Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) qualify for INMO. 
The INMO is held on the third Sunday of January across the country.

The Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) (Previously PRMO) is the first stage examination of the Mathematical Olympiad Programme in India. 
It's a three hour examination with 30 questions. The answer to each question is either a single-digit number or a two-digit number and will need to be marked on a machine-readable OMR response sheet.

The Indian Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad (PRMO) was the first stage examination of the Mathematical Olympiad Programme in India until 2019. 
It's now replaced by the Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM).

The Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) is the second stage examination of the Mathematical Olympiad Programme in India.
It is a three-hour examination with six problems. 
The RMOs are offered in English, Hindi and other regional languages as deemed appropriate by the respective Regional Coordinators. The problems under each topic involve a high level of difficulty and sophistication.

The New Brunswick Mathematics Competition is orgnized by The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New Brunswick and the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering of l'Université de Moncton. It's for students in Grades 7, 8 and 9 of the Province of New Brunswick, Canada.

The New England math match is hosted by NEAML (New England Association of Math Leagues).
Qualification for NEAML for Connecticut teams is as follows: The top two schools in each league (and the top three in FCML, as it’s larger) automatically qualify; one further school from each size category qualifies according to its performance at the CT state match; and a single further school qualifies from the state match.

The Nordic Mathematical Contest (NMC) is a regional competition in mathematics for secondary school students from the five Nordic countries, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The contestants—at most 20 from each country—are elected by the national secondary school mathematical olympiad organisations.

The New Zealand Mathematical Olympiad (NZMO) consists of two rounds:
Round One (the NZMO1): A take home exam (a set of 8 problems), which lasts approximately 2 weeks, starting in June. Participation in the NZMO1 is open to any New Zealand student. More detailed instructions and general information can be found in the regulations.
There is no need to pre-register for the NZMO1. To participate simply download the problems from this website once they are released and submit your solutions and contact details through the online form before the deadline.
Round Two (the NZMO2): A three hour exam in August or September. Participation in the NZMO2 is by invitation only, based on the results of the NZMO1.
Awards for the NZMO (gold/silver/bronze/honourable mention) will be made based on the results of the NZMO2. Scores will not be announced for either round. Participants in the NZMO1 will only receive an indication of whether they have been invited to participate in the NZMO2; participants in the NZMO2 will just be told the level of their award, if any.

The Online Youth Mathematics Competition is a student run competition for students 8th grade and under. The contest committee and problem writers are very experienced in problem writing. The contest difficulty ranges from the AMC 8 / Early MathCounts level all the way to advanced and late AIME level.
The contest is international although the majority of the students are from the USA.
